Riga is the capital of the Baltic republics of Latvia, was founded in 1201 and became a major commercial centre in the thirteenth century belonging to the German Hanseatic League. Riga was severely damaged in World War II but was restored in a charming manner, as it can be seen looking at the Dome Square in the old city center. It is Known as the "Paris of the Baltics" and its beautiful old buildings have been reflected in all architectural styles: Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque, Classical, Art Nouveau, etc.The city dates from medieval times, and this is why it is full of medieval buildings, many streets, parks, rivers and canals.
